Spread Thin

Has anyone ever felt that they spread themselves too thin? Spreading yourself thin can have a lot of meanings. Taking on too much work, thinking you can do everything yourself, or taking on too much emotional burden are just a few examples. 

I feel like a piece of toast. Warm and slightly browned waiting for butter. Unfortunately, there is only enough butter to cover half of the toast. I try to take the butter I have and spread it around all over, but it just can't reach the edges and there is crumbs falling everywhere. 

Now, I'm not particularly unhappy with this piece of toast, but I'm not thrilled with it either. I will constantly think about how this piece of toast does not have what it takes to beat its fully-buttered competition. Will it be better if I add jam? What kind of jam? Should I take the stick of cold butter from the fridge and rake it over the toasts surface and hope it doesn't tear?

The toast is confused as to what it can do or if it can perform properly. The other pieces adorned with peanut butter or avocado have it all figured out and, from the toast's point of view, are thriving. 

So, what is one half-buttered slightly cooled piece of toast to do? Does it throw a shot in the dark and hope that one ingredient will make it better? Does it stay in a state of confusion wondering if it can ever be what it wants to be? What if it doesn't even know what it wants? It just wants to be fully-buttered like the others, but it just doesn't know how to get there. 

Talk about food for thought.
